Day 7: 8/2: On to Stockholm

Up fairly early this morning for one last run along the Copenhagen channels. We both did a workout, which was nice to get the legs moving again before another travel day. We showered up and headed over to the train station, stopping at a kiosk to get one more set of Danish pastries before boarding the train. It’s nice how much smoother it feels to navigate a train station you’ve been to a couple of times.

The train ride was long, but not too bad. I read a little, napped a little, and brushed up on Swedish history (when exactly was Gustavus Adolphus’ reign?).

Two older Swedish women in seats next to us put our nutrition or lack thereof to shame with snacks of cucumbers and radishes, rather than pastries. We at least packed a healthier lunch of sandwiches.

Rolled into Stockholm around 3:30 and struggle to get a ticket as I ended up buying a commuter train instead of the Metro. We learned later that with the metro, you can now (as of 2021) simply click your credit card on the turnstile rather than buying a single pass. Dang Swedes had already out-efficiented my knowledge of transit.

Our Airbnb is in Sodermalm which was surprisingly hilly for being a fairly small island. We rested up a little and then did a short shakeout down (115 ft) to another small island.

Pre-dinner, we hit up a beer garden that Tillman had suggested on our island with a nice view. For whatever reason though, they only offered one beer on tap, which was some Swedish lager. We did not know this and ordered two IPAs in bottle, which ended up being subpar as well. Such is life when traveling.

I had mapped out a restaurant for Swedish meatballs in Gamla Stan, which is the medieval part of the city, as well as the more touristy party (those two usually go hand in hand). The restaurant I had chosen was tiny and there was a line out the door, so we had to audible and find another place. Luckily, the density of restaurants is also high and there is no shortage of places offering up Swedish meatballs for dinner. We found another spot: Slinerbulten a short walk away and enjoyed what ended up being one of the better meals of the trip thus far. Love me some Swedish meatballs.

Walked back to our Airbnb with a quick pit-stop at a grocery store to pick up some more breakfast supplies. The place is small, but nice again. Just like the one in Copenhagen, everything has its place. Very tightly packed though. It’s hard to even reach the sink. I can’t imagine they do a ton of cooking there, certainly not hosting.

Overall- a good day, even if it was a lot of travel. I feel like we made the most of it.
