Day 11: 8/6: Gay pride
Up a little after 7 per usual for the morning workout, this one intended to be the big one of the week. We mapped out that a warm up to Djurgarden wasn't actually all that bad (2ish miles), so while it wasn't amazing to wind through throngs of people over concrete, it wasn't too bad to get there. Djurgarden is another island with an amusement park and a bunch of museums (Vasa among them), but the east side of the island is woods/farms with a lot of paths and one along the exterior of it. We warmed up to the foot of the bridge we agreed to meet at and then set off for our respective workouts. A bit hillier than I anticipated at times, and the gravel was a little loose for perfect workout conditions, but it was probably the best spot we could have picked for this type of a workout where you are trying to get 8-12 miles of speed work in.
Grabbed some lunch at the room again, then set off to find some more cardamom rolls and coffee closer to the center of town. It turns out, it was the gay pride parade so the whole downtown area was slammed with people. We found a bakery a little away for the madness, then strolled through some neighborhoods we hadn't seen yet before getting onto Drottinggaten, their main shopping street. We stopped in 4-5 department stores, mainly looking for pants for me. Anytime we are abroad is a good time to find pants for scrawny tall guys. Ultimately, we came up short. All the jeans that did fit had buttons rather than a zipper, which I didn't like.
Stopped in Galma Stan on the way back and hit up a bar (Ardbeg) and wait for the medieval restaurant to open in hopes that we could snake a table even though we didn't have a reservation. It was a hard no though (the place was already packed by 5:15) so we headed back to our neighborhood and settle for the Bla Dorren (Blue door!) and had a good dinner of fish.
We didn't exactly do a ton here with our time (running aside), but it was nice to visit.
